1. BAKED ZUCCHINI CHIPS: While these aren't your regular crispy potato chips, they're remarkably delicious for a vegetable and pack an amazing parmesan and garlic flavor! I find them much more hearty than most snacks and I love being able to mindlessly munch without feeling all that sodium and oil later on. To get them as crispy and chip-like as possible, bake them on a oven-safe rack that's placed on top of a baking sheet and spray the top with cooking oil spray to help achieve a perfect golden brown.
2. DURIAN CHIPS: This fruit, a native of Thailand smells so bad that it's prohibited in airports and other public places. Although it being so smelly/the unripe durian when made into chips sell like hot cakes. This chip which tastes similar to potato, only a slight bit sweeter is a great alternative to your regular chips. For this unripe durian is sliced thinly using a grater so as to give them the same thickness. This is them deep fried in peanut oil or palm oil on medium heat. This is fried until golden brown and added with a pinch of salt. Voila your chips are ready to be served.
3. APPLE AND CINNAMON CHIPS: They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Haven't we always heard this quote. I'm fact we always eat apple when it's red and ripe. Well, have you very thought of using it as a snack? Well now you can. Apple thinly sliced, with a pinch of salt and cinnamon powder sprinkled over it and baked would be just as good. This easy to make chips usually baked at 250°F( 120°C) for forty minutes and cooled completely before serving requires the least of effort. On a lazy Sunday afternoon before your hands reach out to some processed chips, this would be a perfect healthy alternative.
4. SEA SALT AND GARLIC KALE CHIPS: Have you ever heard of garlic kale and sea salt in the same sentence? Well, neither have I. What if I told you this no fail sea salt and garlic kale chips is a perfect replacement for those butter soaked popcorns. Matter of fact these are so healthy this could take the place of your favourite snack. The kale leaves are washed and dried properly, added to it is olive oil and a pinch of salt and garlic powder. This mixture is put into a preheated oven of 300°F over a course of 27 min with occasional flipping the cooked ones over. The only trick is to add just enough olive oil which covers every crooks and corners of those kale leaves for the prefect vegan healthy snack.
5. BANANA CHIPS: This yellow fruit rich in vitamins and minerals especially Vitamin K, B6 and C1 in the form of chips is a snack common to Kerala, India and Indonesia. More commonly covered in spices to give it a savoury flavour and often covered in honey and sugar to give it a sweet taste. In the Southern state of India, Kerala this chips are an important part of sadya, the meal served in weddings as well as festivals such as Onam.
In Indonesia, generally unripe bananas are used to prepare the chips. The banana is thinly sliced and soaked in lime water and salt solution which is layer deep fried. So, grab some unripe or slightly ripe bananas and try this at home. Might be quite a pleasant surprise to your taste buds.
