While the travel restrictions around the world are slowly being lifted, Governments across the world are taking proper testing measures to avoid the risk of COVID-19 importation into their country. Hence, keeping in mind the current scenario - A new digital health pass - “CommonPass” has been launched to make the travelling hassle-free for all the travellers.
CommonPass is an app which is developed by a public interest foundation called the common projects in coordination with the World Economic Forum based in Switzerland. With this mobile app, travellers can access their COVID-19 status such as PCT test reports, and learn about vaccinations etc. It also saves the user’s test results on their phone and sends a notification to the user regarding the health screening that is mandated by the destination country. The app is currently in a trial phase.
The app was tested by Cathay Pacific on a flight from Hong Kong to Singapore, and by United Airline from London to Newark. Both the trials showed successful results.
After the successful trials, the Common project is planning to launch the CommonPass system in 15 other countries. They are currently working with major airlines to launch the app across the routes in Europe, America, Asia Africa and the Middle East by the end of the year. If everything goes well then the travellers across the world will be able to use the app at free of cost.
Once the app comes
in use, travellers can easily use and access it -
- The app will be available on both IOS and Android to download.
- The app will have all the required details such as COVID 19 government requirements from each country and details of registered medical labs that are CommonPass Enabled.
- Using CommonPass, the traveller can easily log in to the respective laboratory’s system and pull his/her results into the app.
- If the results meet the requirements of the destination country then the app generates a QR code certifying that the traveller is good to travel.
Before we start using this app as our travel partner, it is also necessary to know what does this CommonApp offer?
- Standardisation in COVID-19 results
- Advantage to healthy travellers to avoid quarantine.
- A trustworthy and single model for validating the health status of
incoming travellers across the world.
- Secures data privacy rights of the traveller.
- Supports screening requirements for entry in the destination country.
Apart from the air-travel, the governments have also planned it to use on crossing borders via ground transportation. The app may play an important role in keeping the vaccination records once the vaccination is available. The CommonPass app could also help restaurants, movie-halls, sports venues, concert venues, exhibitions to reopen safely.
Currently, the Common Project is also discussing with the officials of the Tokyo Olympics to use the app to screen the ticket holders attending the event in July 2021. Simultaneously, a discussion with Saudi Health Officials is going on to use the app for the screening of travellers to Mecca for Hajj.
Please note that this app will not only be advised
to use when the app successfully clears all the trial phases and the countries
agree to use it.
